Cake Wrecks, Here I Come!

I'm pretty sure I want to quit. I've been looking for the perfect cake recipe for over a year. A cake solid enough to withstand the tortures of carving and moving, without tasting like cardboard. Still no such luck.

Check it out on my Kake blog.

I am almost sure theu use Madeira as well. It's really not a good-tasting cake. The 3 books I have, two separate authors, on cake decorating with fondant, all say Maderia. Blargh!

Think outside the box. Fun cakes don't have to look exactly like their "subject". Find the recipe you like to eat and work with what it can do. Shape, style, and accessories to suggest, remind, be a part of that world, rather than try to sculpt a copy. And it doesn't always have to be cake.
