Family Reunion 2014 Days 4 & 5

Sunday was time to go.  We had breakfast, then we had "church" and a meeting to start planning for the next reunion in 2016.

The kids played for a bit.

And we said our goodbyes.

We were driving home, or so Isabel thought.  What she didn't know what this:

We drove to Atlanta, stopped at the Sheraton Suites Galleria and told her we were tired and spending the night.  (Free night's stay due to all my previous traveling for my company.)

Then, we presented her with a piece of paper that was her ticket to Six Flags Over Georgia for the next day!

We walked across the street to the mall, and after seeing the very long wait for The Cheesecake Factory, decided on a small, sadly empty restaurant.

The service was excellent and so was the food.  Too bad the people outside were waiting 30-50 minutes when they could have walked in and had Bison meatloaf, or burgers, or one of a bunch of other great dishes.

Bedtime for our gal

Monday, we headed to the park.

It was a fun, but exhausting day.  Iz was SO ready to be home, we decided to just drive straight through to home.  The plan was stopping in another hotel somewhere in S. Georgia for the night, but she protested and we really wanted to get home too. So at 2 .a.m., we pull into our driveway and end our whirlwind mini vacation.  Jake? He didn't want to go to the reunion, hence he also missed out on the theme park. He wasn;t really upset either.  He wants to stay home with friends, and work (barely.)

Family Reunion 2014 Day 3

Saturday morning after breakfast, we had games on the lawn.

Then, some free time, some lunch and then back outside for group pictures.

Then even more free time.  Most of us went back to the meeting room to play a trivia game or board games.

Then, David, his youngest brother and his cousin from Hong Kong headed over to Mount Mitchell while Isabel and I went back to our room for a nap.

Saturday evening was the family talent show. I did not take any pictures because I was busy recording the talents; all except our daughter's performance.  I hit pause instead of record.  *sigh* but my mother-in-law sent me these shots.

Family Reunion 2014 Days 1 & 2

We're back!  We took a 5-day break for a family reunion and a side trip to Six Flags Over Georgia.

Day 1: Driving to North Carolina involved long, boring stretches of roads and lots of selfie-taking between ourselves and my mother-in-law, who was in a different vehicle going to the reunion from a different state.

We arrived at our beautiful location in  Black Mountain, checked in and then went to our reunion meeting room to say hi to everyone.

Day 2: We woke up early for our 8:00 a.m. breakfast time. They did not mess around.  If you did not get your food by 8:45 a.m., you were plain out of luck. No food for you.

We then set out for a guided Nature Hike that KICKED our butts.  Easy hike, my fanny!

After the hike, we headed back to hang out and have lunch around 12:30 p.m.

Arts and Crafts were next.

While our gal did arts and crafts with our family, David and I took a scenic drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

And stopped at a Visitor's Center to watch a movie, read some information and buy a patch for our blanket.

We had dinner at 6 p.m. then headed to the meeting room to play games while we waited for night fall and our bonfire, complete with fixings for Smores.

Off to bed for Day 3.  To be continued.
