Spring Break 2014: Sunday Beach Day

Ever since the mention of an upcoming "Spring Break," Isabel's been on a beach kick.

"Can we go to the beach?"

"Let's go to the beach, ok?"

"Tomorrow?  Can we go to the beach tomorrow?"

Sunday after the 9 a.m. service at church, we hung out at the house, ate lunch and then headed to the beach.  Jacob had to work.  :(   It was an overcast day, so we knew it would not be too hot for it.

Now, let me explain something.  I. Hate. The. Beach.  I hate it. ALL the work.  Let's get changed, let's get towels and sunscreen, hats and a change of clothes. Let's get chairs and blankets, water and snacks. Let's load the car.  Let's spend 30 minutes trying to find a spot.  Let's lug everything from the car to the beach.  Let's set up everything.

Then after about half an hour, I'm completely out-of-my-mind bored.  I hate the salty water. I hate sand everywhere.  Sand in places sand has NO business being in.   I hate having to put everything back in the car and get the car, and my house, sandy.

I am not a fan of people who come to stay at my house and go to the beach.  They bring back their sandy clothing and selves back and I want them to just stay outside and hose off.

So going to the beach for Isabel?  It's a big deal.

Love that I caught her in mid-air.

After we left, we decided to go to PJ's Sea Shack and boy, were we glad we did.  Half-priced appetizers on Sunday, plus the half-priced Early Bird menu were fantastic.  Our bill was basically half what it would have been.

Om nom nom!  Isabel ate this!

Handsome

We went home, all sandy, and crashed for the night.

Spring Break 2014: Friday & Saturday

Friday, Isabel and I drove down to Orlando to go to the cake supply shop. Daddy was working in the morning this time.

Sadly, we don't have a cake supply store anywhere in our county or the next closest county. I have to drive 40 minutes to the nearest cake supply store.  I don't go to Michael's when I need to get fondant.  The only brand they carry is Wilton. GROSS.

We ate lunch at Chipotle and came back to relax/nap before we headed off to dinner at one of our Grow Group family's home.  It's a church thing. We're in small groups to get to know each other better. I really like our Grow Group and can't wait until David has a Friday night off when he can go. We meet every other Friday at someone's house, eat, have Bible study and talk time, while all the kids play. Just great fun.

Saturday, Isabel left around noon to go play at her best friend Lisa's house. They have a pool.  Enough said.

David was off the ENTIRE WEEKEND. You have no idea how rare this is.  We decided to air out our tent, as we have a church camp-out coming in April and we have not used the tent in...oh...about 9 years or so.  This lead to David and I (mostly David) clearing the heck out of one part of the garage.  I'd say he cleared/swept/rearranged about 1/5 of the garage.  He got a lot of work done.

We set up the tent first.

Roomy.

Hello there.

While the tent aired out, we consolidated boxes, cleaned doors, swept and re-swept the floor, washed camping dishes, pots and pans, and threw out a bunch of stuff.  Sadly, like I said, we only hit 1/5 of the mess in there.

Five hours after she left, Lisa's mom brought Isabel home. She was so excited to see the tent. She's been begging us to go camping for over a year.

Daddy sneaks a picture of me and my gal in the tent.

After taking the tent down and packing it away, David grilled some bratwurst and we dinner and YUMMY drinks.

Then, we watched "Frozen" again, this time with David.

Spring Break 2014: Thursday Night Mini-Golf

Jacob's break was actually two weeks earlier, so he has classes, but on Thursday night he asked if we could do something, as we 3 all had Friday off.  Poor David was working and was sad he could not be there, but I kept him updated with these pictures I took from my phone.

Me and my babies.

He was seriously cracking me up.

I didn't realize she was making SUCH a CREEPY face until much later.

You can feed the gators too.

We went to Congo River Mini Golf. The place was packed on a Thursday night, but then again, everyone else is on Spring Break here too.  We had a fun time and Jacob beat my by two strokes.

Spring Break 2014: Wednesday Night Movie

Isabel's Spring Break started end-of-day Wednesday after school.  Since she could stay up late that night we decided to start Spring Break with a movie night!

If you don't know what that movie is, you must please leave your rock once in a while, ok?

Isabel was BELTING it out. Between that song and "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?," we've been driving David crazy all week.

Tree

Well, a jewelry  tree.  Just got it last week for $10, to hold all the random stuff that has been lying in a drawer in a mess.

Love it!

Art & Running

Every year, Isabel's school's P.E. department hosts a family fun run.  Apparently, I did not pay attention to the notices, because last year was the first year she and I attended.  Last year, the kids had the opportunity to submit a picture to have put on the shirts.  Isabel did not submit a picture.

This year, when I heard they were accepting pictures, I made SURE she did one. She was the first person to submit it, too, to the P.E. department head.

Adorbs!

About two weeks later, David gets the call from Coach Taylor.  Isabel's drawing had been selected as the winner!!!

The two-mile Pride Prowl was yesterday, March 8.  David came with us.  We were happy about that.

Isabel's T-Shirt!!
Over 105 people ran, with Isabel's art on their shirts!  So exciting.

I wish I had gotten more shots of how large the group was, but I was more about being in the moment, than taking pictures.

Coach Taylor presents the artist to the school.

It was a lot of fun. Isabel took off with her BFF Lisa, while David and I walked with Lisa's parents, Teresa & Chuck.  At one point, David took off running to catch up to Isabel and ended up catching up to me, one lap ahead.  So I started running.  Yes, me and my knee; and it was not bad.  I ran and walked and ran, and caught back up with David, so we could complete the two miles together.  The knee IS sore today but not as bad as I thought it would be.

Having some water and tangerine at the end of the race.
